Whirlpool to Layoff 650 Employees in June 2025

Whirlpool Corporation has announced plans to lay off 650 employees at its Middle Amana, Iowa, facility located at 2800 220th Trail.
The layoffs are scheduled to commence on June 1, 2025, in response to a significant decline in consumer demand for appliances.
Historically, the Middle Amana plant has experienced workforce fluctuations due to seasonal demand variations.
For instance, in January 2010 according to The Gazette, Whirlpool laid off up to 200 workers to adjust inventories, with expectations of recalling employees as demand increased.
Additionally, in April 2024, Whirlpool implemented layoffs affecting approximately 1,000 salaried positions worldwide to reduce costs amid stagnant U.S. appliance demand.
Despite these challenges, Whirlpool has previously demonstrated a commitment to the Middle Amana facility.
In 2020, the company sold the plant as part of a strategy to optimize its real estate portfolio, entering a long-term lease to maintain operations without impacting local jobs.
The upcoming layoffs reflect the ongoing volatility in the appliance industry, influenced by shifting consumer behaviors and economic conditions.
Whirlpool has not specified plans for rehiring but remains focused on aligning its workforce with current market demands.
