Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay Announces Layoffs and Store Closures
Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay has announced plans to close its Oakland outlet store located at 1301 30th Ave and its San Francisco store at 750 Post Street, resulting in the layoff of 72 employees in Oakland and 18 in San Francisco.

These closures are scheduled to take effect on June 7, 2025, as indicated in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the state.
The Oakland outlet store has been temporarily closed for updates since October 2024.
At that time, Goodwill stated:
"Our Oakland outlet store located at 1301 30th Ave is temporarily closed while we make some updates."
In September 2024, Goodwill terminated bulk sales at its San Francisco location, a decision that faced opposition from local entrepreneurs who relied on these sales for their businesses.
A petition opposing the termination highlighted the negative impact on families dependent on bulk sales for income.
Additionally, in September 2024, Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay's CEO and entire C-suite announced their departure on LinkedIn as part of a cost-cutting consolidation effort aimed at saving millions in salary expenses and avoiding retail layoffs and store closures.
Departing CEO William Rogers stated:
"This just felt like the most ethical and smartest thing to do."
The upcoming layoffs and store closures reflect ongoing financial challenges faced by Goodwill of the San Francisco Bay, impacting both employees and the communities they serve.
