DeepSeek App Removed from Apple and Google Stores in Italy
The Chinese artificial intelligence application, DeepSeek, has been removed from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store in Italy following an investigation by the country’s privacy regulator.
As the documents on DeepSeek website suggests it stores data on their servers located somewhere in China, the probe was initiated due to concerns over the app’s data handling practices.
The Italian Data Protection Authority called Garante has requested detailed information from DeepSeek regarding its data processing methods and compliance with privacy regulations.
Chinese AI startup has been given 20 days to respond to these inquiries.
This action reflects Italy’s proactive stance on data privacy, as the country has previously taken measures against other AI applications over similar concerns.
As of now, users who have already downloaded DeepSeek can continue to use the app, but new downloads are restricted within Italy. The app remains available in other regions.
DeepSeek has not yet issued a public statement regarding the investigation or the app’s removal from the stores.
