UPS Layoffs 2024: Another Blow to American Workers
UPS nationwide layoffs for the year 2024 continue and hitting more employees after the company announced layoffs early this year cutting more than 12,000 jobs at the management levels from its massive list of 500,000 employees.
However, it turns out that UPS layoffs are seriously impacting Americans as the company itself facing declining revenue forcing it to close facilities and also reducing staffing.
On September 20, the company officially announced the news that these layoffs are part of ongoing efforts to reduce costs without sharing the exact number of employees saying goodbye to the company.
- UPS as its name suggests “United Parcel Service” is a highly trusted and iconic brand for Americans which currently stands as a global shipping company for delivering packages and freight.
After claiming huge profits during COVID-19, the company needs help with high costs and reduced demands of door-to-door deliveries.
Here’s what a UPS spokesperson said:
“Earlier this year, we announced efforts to align the size of our management staff with the size of our company, we continue to look for ways to increase productivity through process improvements, technology advancements, and organization realignment.”
Putting a cherry on the cake, UPS CEO Carol Tome called the 2023 business year “a difficult and disappointing year.”
The current layoffs can be blamed on a 32% year-over-year decline in net income for this second quarter and also the growing operating expenses.
However, with all these issues going on UPS continues to announce acquisitions as the company recently announced to acquire Frigo-Trans and BPL (its sister company).
On the other hand, UPS’s top executive Laura Lane who is the chief corporate affairs and sustainability officer is leaving the company.
So, job cuts and layoffs at UPS will continue till they hit the mark of at least 12,000 or more employees.
