This is one of the most rumored gadgets for gamers and everybody has been waiting for an official announcement till now.

In a technical presentation (YouTube video link), Sony officially announced the PS5 Pro that will come with a more powerful GPU, advanced ray tracing, and of course the powers of AI.

Here’s what Mark Cerny (architect head of PS5 Console) shared:

“It’s the most powerful console we’ve ever built,”

Somehow, it is the all-new PS5 Pro gaming console that would give you 45% faster rendering without having to choose between performance and fidelity modes.

What else?

PS5 Pro comes with a PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) feature that’s powered by AI to drastically improve the frame rates and overall image quality of your games.

  • There’s another “Game Boost” feature to improve games of PS4 and PS5 games.

Here’s a complete list of new features:

  • Larger GPU: 67% more compute units, resulting in 45% faster rendering.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: Improved ray-tracing speeds, up to triple the current PS5.
  • AI-Powered Upscaling: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for enhanced frame rates and image quality.
  • Game Boost: Enhances over 8,500 PS4 games.
  • 2TB SSD: Larger storage and additional USB-C port.
  • Wi-Fi 7 Support: Improved connectivity and 8K resolution support.

The good thing?

You will be able to preorder your PS5 Pro starting from September 26, 2024, and it will be available at all the retail stores on November 7, 2024, for you to buy at your nearest market.

But there’s also a bad thing (not for most of us): the PS5 Pro will not come with a disc drive option.

However, you can buy a 4K Blu-ray disk drive (if you need it) separately.

So what are the first few games coming on PS5 Pro with all the latest enhancements?

Here’s a quick list:

  2. Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Optimized for higher frame rates and fidelity.
  3. Demon’s Souls: Offers improved visuals and performance.
  4. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Enhanced with advanced ray tracing.
  5. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Supports 4K resolution and 60fps.
  6. Gran Turismo 7: Features an 8K mode and 4K ray-tracing.
  7. Hogwarts Legacy: Includes better frame rates and details.
  8. Horizon Forbidden West: Improved resolution and frame rates.
  9. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Enhanced with PSSR upscaling for better visuals.

  11. The Crew Motorfest: Enhanced with better image quality.

  13. The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Targets 60fps with more detail.

These games will feature enhanced visuals, frame rates, and performance tailored to the PS5 Pro’s upgraded hardware and AI powers.

Isn’t this enough for now? And great for gamers?

But wait, comments on the presentation video on YouTube are against this as I have read people saying things like:

2000s/2010s: new console is about 300$, massive graphical and gameplay upgrades

2024: new console is 700$ and improvements are barely noticable

- $700

- No new games

- Pay extra for disc drive

- Pay extra for a stand

- Limited amount of pro-enhanced games

Thanks but I'll pass.

So, overall, the public is not satisfied with this new PS5 Pro announcement and majorly with price point.

I hope Sony will hear these comments and make changes at the launch to make their mark.
