Google’s Circle to Search feature is being released to more Android devices
Circle to Search by Google is a feature that lets you make a circle on anything on your Android device and perform a search using the Google search engine to basically find a relevant product or information about what’s inside the circle.
It is the same thing you can see in Samsung’s Circle to Search feature and also in Pixel phones.
This feature is somehow being dubbed as the AI-powered visual lookup feature, it is barely using any AI tools as when I tested it on my Pixel phone, it turned out to be just a simple image search feature.
It is like you make a circle on your screen and perform a search that looks for relevant image data from Google’s index.
Probably the same system that is being used by Google’s Lens and Google’s Image Search tools.
The only thing making this feature a cool one was its limited availability and access to Google's generative AI summaries, but now reports suggest that Google is releasing the feature for more latest Android smartphones such as Tecno V Fold 2 and others.
But wait, there’s something unique about this feature and that’s actually why it is being dubbed as an AI-powered feature.
If you own a phone with this feature, you can actually long-press the Home button and circle anything on your screen to translate, copy, or search.
This translation would be a game-changing thing as a lot of people struggle to understand other languages and translating text from images and videos is a nightmare for them.
So, it turns out that Google is not just leaving this Circle to Search feature as is, the company is working on making it a real AI feature by adding various other functionalities such as a song identification option, a ‘cropland share’ option to let you share a part of a photo with your peers and much more.
I believe they will add finalities to find a recipe for a dish, have it give short summaries about things such as a landscape photo, a bike or a car photo, and more like details about a historical site, etc which the tools is already giving by using Google's generative summaries but those are not enough, at least for me.
The possibilities are endless, but for now, the feature is not yet fully prepared to be called AI-powered.
However, the feature is going to be released to more Android phones in the next few months and we would be able to see some unique possibilities in it.
