Elon Musk Surprises by Supporting California's AI Bill
I am surprised that Elon Musk is supporting California’s AI bill and you should be surprised too.

While OpenAI is against this bill, Elon Musk who’s running xAI surprised everyone by showing support for California’s SB 1047 bill that requires all the major AI players with large AI models to document their safeguarding rules and more to reduce side effects of those models.
He went on to write on X:
“This is a tough call and will make some people upset, but, all things considered, I think California should probably pass the SB 1047 AI safety bill,”
Elon might be pointing at OpenAI and Microsoft by saying "will upset some people," but there's no clarity in this.
He added further:
“For over 20 years, I have been an advocate for AI regulation, just as we regulate any product/technology that is a potential risk.”
Elon, however, called AI a potential risk in his statement and also owns xAI, which is already involved in making large AI models like Grok and more.
However, media outlets reported a surprise move by Elon Musk and it was a real surprise to me too.
I was thinking that Elon Musk would stand to oppose this bill or have a draft of his own.
But as he’s a visionary, he must be thinking beyond today’s AI world, he’s aiming for long-term gains with his xAI and Tesla Robots.
So, there’s much to see as the current #1 player in the AI race “OpenAI” is against this bill.
