Base M3 MacBook Air is now offering significantly Faster SSD Speeds than Before
This week, Apple is offering a new gift for you, as it has released the new M3 MacBook Air, which has faster performance, WiFi 6E, and support for dual external displays. Apple has also been working on MacBook Air: SSD storage speeds.
The story behind this improvement is that the previous model M2 MacBook Air with 256GB of storage was offering slower SSD speeds. And the reason for this slower speed was, that this model was using one chip of 256GB instead of two 128GB storage chips.
Gregory McFadden spotted on Twitter that the new M3 MacBook Air offers significantly faster SSD speeds than the M2 MacBook Air before it. It has been confirmed by Max Tech on YouTube that it has happened because Apple is now using two 128GB storage chips for the base model MacBook Air instead of a single 256GB module.
Another benefit is that the M3 MacBook Air's two 128GB NAND chips work to process tasks in parallel which enhances the speed.
Max Tech has also acknowledged that the M3 MacBook Air can hit write speeds of 2108 MB/s, up from the base M2 MacBook Air's speeds of 1584 MB/s. And for read speeds where the M2 MacBook Air hit 1576 MB/s, the M3 MacBook Air hit 2880 MB/s.
This gives a clear idea that the M3 MacBook Air features SSD write speeds that are almost 33% faster and read speeds that are almost 82% faster.
And this is how it proves that these speeds match and sometimes exceed the speeds of the M1 MacBook Air.
