Twitter Blue 2-Hour Video Uploads, Stirring Controversy and Raising Concerns

Elon Musk surprised twtterati with yet another feature for longer video uploads (up to two hours and 8GB in size limit).

In a recent move that has sparked both excitement and apprehension, Twitter has expanded the capabilities of its Twitter Blue subscribers, now allowing users to upload videos up to a staggering two-hour duration. To ensure optimal quality, the extended videos will be uploaded in 1080p resolution while adhering to an 8GB file size limit. Notably, this privilege is currently reserved for web and iOS users, while Android users are restricted to posting videos no longer than 10 minutes.

This news has already raised eyebrows, with one user attempting to share what seemed to be the complete version of "Shrek the Third" in the comments section of a tweet by Twitter owner Elon Musk (though the video has since been removed).

Despite these limitations, it is expected that "Shrek the Third" will not be the sole full-length movie to find its way onto the platform, given the recent trend of users enjoying the entirety of films such as "The Super Mario Bros. Movie."

However, the elongated video uploads are merely one facet of a range of new features being integrated into the Twitter Blue subscription.

In addition to the extended videos, subscribers will benefit from coveted blue verified checkmarks, which have ironically become somewhat of a meme-worthy status symbol.

Furthermore, the Twitter Blue feature will introduce encrypted messages, despite reports of certain security flaws, as well as an astounding increase in character limits, from the previous 4,000 characters to an expansive 10,000 characters. Enhanced support for text formatting and the long-awaited ability to edit tweets are also included in the subscription package.

By providing Twitter users with an extended canvas for video content, Twitter Blue's latest offering has ignited conversations about the boundaries and possibilities of online media consumption, while also raising questions about the platform's evolving monetization strategies and the impact on user behavior and engagement.
