Pakistan Temporarily Bans All Social Media Apps and Sites
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) temporarily blocks all major social media sites in the country until 3 PM to tackle the violence of and maintain the law and order in the country.
Following the violent protests by Tehrek-e-Labaiq Pakistan (TLP), and its ban by the Pakistani government, Interior Minister ordered PTA to block social media access in the entire country for a few hours. Here's what the letter reads:
"Complete access to social media platforms" should be suspended from 11am to 3pm.
Earlier, yesterday Pakistan imposed a ban on TLP (religious-political party) and PEMRA ordered all the media houses to stop the coverage of TLP protests.
Pakistan government has banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan under the Anti-Terrorism Act, interior minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said in an announcement. He further added that the government will not spare anyone involved in creating law and order damage and damage to public and private properties. No case will that is registered against TLP will be withdrawn, he added.
For now, Pakistan blocks social media platforms for a few hours to control the situation.
In total, at least 115 FIRs have been registered and 2,063 workers arrested to disperse the protesters of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan.
According to TLP workers, they were doing the protests just to show love and respect for our Holy Prophet Muhammad PBUH and they were not intended to harm anyone or any public or private property.
