A List of Human Foods Dogs Are Safe to Eat

If you’re a dog owner, you probably find yourself scrambling to search for whether or not a food is dog safe after you watch them scarf down an entire plate of it while you weren’t looking.

The good news is there are plenty of human foods that dogs can eat, and the even better news is that there aren’t many human foods that are fatal to dogs. Some foods may cause upset stomachs or diarrhea, but most foods won’t poison your dog fatally unless they’ve had way too much of it in one sitting.

Here are eight different human foods that dogs can totally eat!

Carrots

Not only can dogs eat carrots, but they should! Chewing on a carrot can help your dog remove plaque from their teeth. They also promote good dental health and are a good source of vitamin A. Dogs require vitamin A to help with their immune system, skin, and coat.

Too much vitamin A can be toxic, so make sure that you’re monitoring your dog’s intake of foods that are high in vitamin A.

Apples

Apples are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, and fiber. Eating a few bites of an apple can help to regulate a dog’s digestion. Make sure to keep rotten apples away from them, as they can cause alcohol poisoning in dogs.

White Rice

If your dog has an upset stomach, cooked white rice can help them feel better. It’s easy to digest and helps to bind stool together to prevent diarrhea. If your dog has diabetes, they should eat rice only in small amounts as it may cause heightened blood sugar levels.

Dairy Products

Dogs can consume dairy products such as milk, cheese, and plain yogurt in very small quantities. Dogs can be lactose intolerant just like humans, so avoid feeding them dairy products if they’re lactose intolerant.

Fish

Salmon, shrimp, and tuna are a great source of protein for dogs, and tuna and salmon are also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty accidents can help your dog’s immune system stay strong and healthy. They’ll also help to keep their coat and skin healthy as well.

Shrimp contains B vitamins that help digestive systems and promote healthy blood circulation.

Peanut Butter

Dogs love peanut butter, but make sure that you’re feeding them the right type. Choose a peanut butter that is unsalted and doesn’t have any added sugars or sweeteners. Peanut butter contains helpful vitamins such as E, B, and niacin.

Peanut butter is also high in healthy fat and protein. Make sure that your peanut butter does not xylitol in it before feeding it to your dog, as it’s highly toxic.

Plain Popcorn

Popcorn contains magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc, which can help to keep your dog healthy. Make sure to feed them plain popcorn that doesn’t have any salt, butter, sugar, or other seasonings on it.

Fruits

There are many types of fruit dogs can eat, and most dogs love fruit. Fruits that dogs can eat include:

  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Watermelon

Try out some of these fruits with your dog to see if they like them. Introducing small amounts of fruit into their diet can be really helpful for their health.

Human Grade Food for Your Dog

The best way to introduce healthy human food into your dog’s diet is to use human-grade food. There are many different companies that sell high-quality whole-food only foods for dogs. These companies offer fresh, nutritional foods that could never be found in a pet store.

Compare different types of food for your dog and talk to your vet before making the decision to switch.
